Big Wheel Editing notes: My edit log for this recording is so long it makes Charles Dickens’ Bleak House seem like an abbreviated haiku, so here is a boiled down summary hitting some of the highlights in this quest: • Global de-click to temper down the universal loud applause • Some intermittent spot de-clicking • Various types of spectral repair to tame down some loud screams (I would’ve liked to have addressed more of these, but I don’t have a few hundred extra hours right now) • Various types and endless combinations of settings in spectral repair to quiet down the loud talker; this was excruciating at times, as the talking was rampant, and embedded, in certain areas. • A lot of trial and error, undoing edits, redoing and tweaking, also lots of time spent fiddling with the spectrogram settings to try to “see” and figure out where the offending noises were in the spectrogram (sometimes this was pretty easy, sometimes virtually impossible where embedded). I’m still learning rx, and unfortunately was a bit too aggressive at a few points where the obnoxious talking was embedded. Some day I’ll go back and try to fix some of my errors. Special thanks to the taper for supplying the raw source file, and for recording so many of these shows, and thanks and respect to anyone who has taped. Also, thanks to anyone who doesn’t scream or karaoke or talk or thunderclap during gigs. And to everyone who likes to listen to these recordings, please think about recording a show or two yourself on the next tour. Gear isn’t terribly expensive these days, and you can find good deals on used equipment. Phone recordings and internal mic recordings are ok as backups, but please consider investing in a recorder and some mics, it makes a big difference.
